Course Description  This course introduces the basics of computing, the role of the computer in
modern society and ethical considerations.  
Practical aspects are emphasized using “hands-on”
experiences with various contemporary software
.  The impact of the computer on interpersonal
and group communications such as email, blogs, and social networks
(chat room, MySpace, Facebook, etc.)

Evaluation Method    Students will be evaluated using quiz grades, homework assignments,
portfolio, class participation, web site construction. handson LAB and written/performance final.

Teaching Methods  The class will be taught at Jackson County High School using adult pedagogy.  Course
will include online communications, assignments and "dropping" homework in an assigned mailbox.

Course Goal  To provide sufficient resources and instruction to assure that each student completing this
course is able to manipulate data files in various application packages producing information that is useful to
the student's academic success and employment.

Late Work Policy  All assigned tasks must be completed (and submitted/posted) by the assigned due
dates.  Participation exercises, threaded discussions, case studies and quizzes must be completed by the
assigned due dates (late work will not be accepted).
Late homework assignments will be deducted 10 points each class period they are late
(regardless of the total
points for the assignment).  Class quizzes cannot be "made up."
